xAI - From Grok-0 to Grok-1.5V

xAI has made significant strides since its inception in July 2023. The company's mission is to advance human scientific discovery and deepen our understanding of the universe through innovative AI technologies.

xAI's flagship AI models, known as Grok, have seen rapid development and deployment. The initial model, Grok-0, a 33 billion parameter dense transformer, was followed by Grok-1 and Grok-1.5, which introduced improved capabilities in reasoning, coding, and handling extended contexts. The latest iteration, Grok-1.5V, incorporates vision capabilities, enabling it to process and understand interleaved natural language and images, a crucial step in multimodal AI developmentā€‹.

On March 17, 2024, xAI made a significant move by releasing the weights and architecture of Grok-1 under the Apache 2.0 license, making it accessible for further development and application by the AI community. This release aligns with Musk's vision of creating more transparent and accountable AI, in contrast to the "black box" models of competitors. xAI has closely partnered with X Corp to integrate Grok into the X platform. Subscribers to X Premium and X Premium+ can access and interact with Grok for various applications, ranging from serious inquiries to more casual conversations. This integration aims to enhance user experience on the platform by leveraging advanced AI capabilities.

The company was founded by Elon Musk. To date, they have a $24 billion evaluation.
