🏃🏾♂️ Earn money to work out
Move-to-Earn applications are an up-and-coming way to reward players with cryptocurrency by simply working out. They use technology to track player movements, so users don’t need to change their normal fitness routine and can go on doing their workout as usual.
STEPN
One of the most popular Move-to-Earn games currently is STEPN, an application on the Solana blockchain, which lets you earn tokens by walking and running. To get started, users would need to spend an 'X' amount of sol (usually about 600 USD worth) on a pair of virtual shoes in the form of an NFT. As the user works out, they will earn GST tokens, which you can then burn to upgrade sneakers to make it more efficient for earning more tokens or burn so that you can mint your sneaker NFT to sell or keep it.
Right now, in order to provide price stability, STEPN has implemented a dual-token system using GST and GMT. The principal of the system is that if GST gets too pricy, STEPN will ask users to burn GMT so that the supply of GST can increase, thus lowering the price.
STEPN, similar to many other crypto projects, has suffered from the latest crypto crash. While there is ongoing interest in this application, the company’s profit has been very volatile (refer to the above chart).
Other Move-to-Earn apps
Some other Move-to-Earn applications include MetaGym ($MGCN). MetaGym equips you with an NFT avatar (which you can lease or sell), and you can log in cardio, health behaviors, and complete challenges to earn up to 100 MGCN a day. Another popular Move-to-Earn application is Sweatcoin ($SWEAT). This one is straightforward as you just earn SWEAT for every 1,000 steps you take which you can exchange to buy physical items in their marketplace or use it to invest in cryptocurrency.
As there are bound to be more web3 companies that will build Move-to-Earn apps due to the current hype, the future for these apps are bright as they combine the world’s love for fitness and earning money.
