Optimizing business with blockchain

Running a company in this technologically advanced society can be very hard. There is a lot of data that they need to keep. Usually, every company keeps a separate copy of its data because there is no collective trust. This can pose a severe security risk, and it can be extremely wasteful. There are many methods in place to adequately utilize and store the data, but in recent times, the data flow is beyond the company’s capabilities.

The majority of these issues can be solved by utilizing the blockchain.

Blockchain can allow businesses to streamline their operations. For example, it can be used to track large-scale supply chain goods and/or settle global payments. Blockchain for businesses will be different than blockchain for, lets say, Bitcoin. Bitcoin operates on a public blockchain, but one for businesses will need to operate on a permissioned blockchain where the visibility of data will be restricted to a select group of people.

Using blockchain is very secure for companies, as well, because they use cryptography to make it difficult for individuals breaching security to manipulate the history of previous transactions. But the data is also mutable because it can be changed only if every individual managing the blockchain network agrees on it.

The 4 main characteristics of an enterprise blockchain is that: Everyone managing the blockchain are held accountable for its actions, only people with permission to use the blockchain network can use it, like previously said, the data is mutable, and it is not as decentralized as a public blockchain which allows it to support more transactions in the base layer.

Facebook, IBM, Intel, JP Morgan, and Walmart are some prominent examples of enterprises exploring blockchain to optimize their business operations while providing more transparency.
